Taking your kitchen to the next level.

"..Defining not confining.."
One thing is for certain, the look and shape of our kitchens in the future will not look how they did in the past. The way we live our lives is changing and the kitchen, often seen as the most influential room in the house is becoming something new. Top kitchen designers are increasing talking about blurring of boundaries between home and work and the social aspect of the kitchen space.  On line technology now allows us to catch up on our emails, socialise and prepare food all in one space.  The term multi functioning spaces is another commonly used term but what does it actually mean in reality?

Throw away convention and imagine your favourite love or interest being incorporated with your kitchen. This could become your study kitchen, your studio kitchen or even your library kitchen.  It could be unconventional or conventional, as long as it represents you and what is going on inside. It’s about making your home work for you individually.

So what form will these new kitchens take? European design is currently at the forefront, providing stylish, sleek designs with Italy and Germany leading the way. Pure and strong linear prospectives with uninterrupted sight lines create illusions of space This is a minimalist look and not to everyones taste. However, texture is incorporated into walls and wall surfaces, whilst much use of brick and textured wood add warmth to create that homely but stylish atmosphere.

Another new concept gathering pace is the idea of modular living. These can be described as modular blocks of units. Typically there would be two or three in a space which would encompass appliances, sinks, and a dining facility. The thinking here is to provide multi functional units that maximise the use of space in a home. Modular living also provides opportunities to completely change the ground floor layout of our houses to really reflect who we are as people and how we live today.

The future of kitchens is exciting and full of possibilities. What could yours be?
